5 GIFTS TO GIVE INSTEAD OF TOYS THIS CHRISTMAS
I'm not a minimalist mama, but I claim to be a wannabe minimalist. It happened two moves ago when my stuff became too much of a burden to bare & I wrote a little about my quest for minimalism & some ways to declutter your home here.
We're in a small space & when the floor is littered with toys, both big & small, it becomes a bit distracting. Especially when they're not being played with. I'm all about the kids learning through play, but I think experiences is what we've been working towards this past year. Experiences with one another & having the kids gain experience through activities.
I'm excited to share with you some gift ideas when it comes to Christmas & birthdays, that aren't toys.

My kids will never say no to the movies & we love making it a family affair. Movie tickets are a great gift to give instead of toys. The dark theatre, the big seats, the backpack full of snacks, all of it, so fun & memorable for the entire family.
Annual National Park pass.
What's better than experiencing new adventures as a family? Especially adventures in the great outdoors! It would be a great opportunity to be able to visit National Parks for the entire year! Having a park pass alleviates the cost of entrance to the parks.
Pay fees for extra curricular activities or specialty classes.
Whether it's a year's tuition or a month, paying for dance class, cooking class, soccer, baseball, painting class can bare some of the burden for parents. So instead of an action figure or doll this Christmas, pay for an experience that will cultivate passion & skill.

Depending on the age of the kid, they probably have started to develop a passion for something like cooking or playing an instrument. For example, my kids like to cook, go fishing & my daughter likes to play the piano. We got her this keyboard to practice on & really all 3 of our kids use it & have so much fun experimenting with music. Here is a really cool kids' fishing gear set. Another example would be this Curious Chef kitchen set. These are all really good ideas for developing skills at home or while fishing with Grandpa.
A camera that takes real photos.
My daughter loves to take photos with her smart pad or my phone. I love to see what she thinks is worthy enough to capture. I love the Instax cameras as starter camera for kids. This one is a little pricey & there are so many other, less expensive options. There are also other options for smaller kids, like this one. I think cameras are a great way to cultivate creativity in littles & wouldn't it would be a great idea for the kids to have a camera while visiting National parks?? It would keep them more engaged & help them document what they've learned. They would also have some keepsake photos.
